Hello and welcome!
My name is Myranda Robinson and I am a student at the University of Mary, majoring in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Special Education. I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah until I was in Middle School, when my family and I relocated to Rapid City, South Dakota. Once I graduated High School, I had the opportunity to attend College here, in Bismarck, North Dakota. I have studied in Bismarck for the last four years, as I look forward to student teaching and graduation this coming spring. Through my studies at the University of Mary, I had the opportunity to visit Peru. We toured many different schools and completely immersed ourselves within the culture. It was from this experience that it became clear to me why I align so closely with early childhood education and special education for students with emotional disturbances. It is because of the social and emotional aspects that are aligned with each of these areas. Emotion is universal; It is recognizable and relatable. In Peru, I may not have spoken fluent Spanish, but I knew what a laugh or scream sounded like and I knew what a smile or tears meant. I have learned that we may not all feel the same emotion to its entirety or to the extent of another, but we still feel them. That is what I am passionate about in teaching. Not to teach students it is not okay to feel, but to teach students what is an expected behavior for when they do feel. Being able to watch a student recognize that he/she is the one in control of his/her actions, not his/her feelings, is what brings me the most joy.
